The biodiversity, ecological stability and sustainability of the Sanjiangyuan National Park in northwest China's Qinghai Province, known as the "Water Tower of China," have significantly improved, thanks to the dedication of local ecological rangers, said Lian Yuming, chief expert of the Sanjiangyuan National Park Administration on Monday.

Lian, also a member of China's top political advisory body, made the remarks during the Members' Corridor of the third session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The Sanjiangyuan National Park is home to over 3,000 recorded alpine wild plant species and 310 recorded alpine wild animal species, he said, adding that of more than 110,000 ethnic Zang people there, 21,432 ecological rangers guard the land day and night.

Lian added that the annual water conservation capacity at the source of the Sanjiangyuan area has increased by over 6 percent. The population of the once-endangered Tibetan antelope has rebounded from just over 20,000 in the early days of protection to more than 70,000 nowadays. Rare snow leopards and North Chinese leopards are now frequently spotted, while black-necked cranes and golden eagles soar across the blue sky.

A new chapter of Chinese-style ecological civilization, marked by harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature, is unfolding in Sanjiangyuan, Lian noted.
